Competitions

Every competition below is run by a student department. Win one and they will print your team name badly on a very good certificate.

The Grand Elite Tournament — by invitation only

Reserved since the first edition for those who prove themselves 1337. Entry is not bought, begged, or borrowed. The standings of the last session are public; the invite list never was.

Reverse Coding

Someone else's binary, one source tree at a time. Prelims in the morning, finals in the afternoon, and a whiteboard that has never been the right size.

CS Tech · reverse engineering · patience

Hack For Tomorrow

The flagship 24-hour hackathon. Build something real, get it in front of mentors, and sleep when it is finished, which is to say never.

CS Tech · 24 hours · open to all

Codeum Reparo

Broken code, one afternoon. A judge hands you something that does not compile and a deadline; the rest is yours.

CS Tech · debugging · under pressure

Neural Net Nexus

Train something until it is briefly useful. Runs all day, online, and judges more forgiving than anyone expected.

CS Tech · machine learning · full day

Binary Baton

A relay where each leg inherits the last one's code. Pass it badly and the baton gets heavier.

CS Tech · team relay · inheritance

Enigma

Break the cipher before the clock does. Cryptanalysis, classical and otherwise, judged on paper and on screen.

CS Tech · ciphers · under the clock

Lumiere

Electronics judged on the board, not the box. Solder, scope, and a circuit that has to work first time in front of the judges.

Gen Tech · electronics · hardware

RC Car Racing

Engineering at 40 km/h indoors. Lowest lap takes the trophy; the spare parts budget does not survive contact with the floor.

Gen Tech · control · spare parts

Diffuse

A design competition decided on paper, where the constraint does most of the work and taste does the rest.

Gen Tech · design · constraints

Med Expo

Build something that helps someone, then explain it to a visitor who has never seen it before.

Non Tech · exhibition · project labs

Abra Ca Dabra

A magic act judged on whether it worked. Bring your own apparatus and your own excuses.

Non Tech · performance · BSP Lab

Capture The Flag

Services fall one at a time, in an order the organisers will not publish. First team to hold every flag wins; holding nothing counts as losing.

CS Tech · security · online

All competitions conclude by the end of the day. Disputes are settled by the coordinator, then the floor marshal, then whoever finds the venue first, in ascending order of danger.
