Between the competitions
Between tournaments the fest keeps running: talks, exhibitions, music, and the courtyard lights the electricians swear are temporary.
The opening. Nine hundred seats, a lamp-lighting, and the only event everyone attends whether or not they intended to.
An invited speaker talks to the hall about the shape of things to come. In 1337 the speaker promised self-lighting lamps and talking machines; the crowd jeered, then built both.
The open exhibition floor, where every department pins up its cleverest build and visitors are encouraged to touch everything exactly once.
When the schedule clears, the hall is handed to whoever signs up. Attendance is optional; the sound system is not, and never has been.
The closing evening of games, food and things that are better than they look. The organisers have never explained the schedule, on the grounds that it is part of the fun.
One hour, one room, one prop that is definitely not the prop. Groups of four; the organisers keep score and blame.
Events run rain or shine; the electricians have ensured that "shine" is the default state of the courtyard.
